Digital journalism and social networks are at the core of the Migrants as Messengers project, leveraging the credibility and knowledge of migrant returnees to raise awareness of the dangers of irregular migration. Equipped with an innovative “smartphone kit”, IOM-trained volunteers (who are all migrant returnees themselves) interviewed migrants in their communities using Community Response App, a mobile app developed by IOM.

The interviews collected were then uploaded online to be easily shared on different social networks. The videos below were recorded in Senegal, Guinea and Nigeria during the period of April to December 2018.
